Photo scavenger hunt app for real-world groups
PicChase questions and answers
What is PicChase?
PicChase is a real-world multiplayer photo scavenger hunt app. A host creates a game, shares a six-character game code, and participants photograph real-world subjects in Race, Timed, or Color hunting.
Is PicChase free?
PicChase is free to download, and no payment is required to start. Six free packs are included, custom lists are free, and groups of up to four player entries can play as many games as they like. Optional one-time purchases unlock individual packs or Premium features.
What does Premium include?
Premium is a one-time purchase that you keep permanently — never a subscription. It unlocks every challenge pack, unlimited player entries, downloads of every player's photos, saved custom lists, a shareable password-protected web gallery, and 14-day photo and history storage instead of 24 hours. Everyone can download their own photos without Premium. Packs can also be purchased one by one. Current local prices are shown in the App Store and Google Play.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Players install the app and join each game with a display name and its game code.
How many people can play?
A free game supports up to four player entries with no limit on the number of games. Premium unlocks unlimited player entries. Larger groups can also form teams and use one phone per team.
Does every player need to install PicChase?
Each player entry needs PicChase on an iPhone, iPad, or Android device. A group can register as one team and share one phone, so a class of 20 might compete as four teams using four phones. The website is for information and support, not gameplay.
Which languages are available?
PicChase is available in English, Spanish, German, French, and Latvian. Custom text remains in the language written by the host.
What are Race, Timed, and Color hunting modes?
Race is won by the first player or team to complete the list. Timed compares progress when the countdown ends. Color hunting is non-competitive and builds a personal gallery around an assigned color.
Can I create or customize a scavenger hunt list?
Yes. Creating a custom list for a game is currently free for everyone. You may also customize every ready-made pack, including removing prompts that do not fit the location. Saving a named custom list for reuse is a Premium convenience. Some hosts ask ChatGPT for prompt ideas, then review them for the real group and setting.
Does PicChase work offline?
Internet is required to start and finish a game and to synchronize photos, progress, and state in real time. A brief interruption should not be a problem: data should synchronize when the connection returns.
Who can see submitted photos?
People who know the game code and join that game can view its submitted photos. With Premium, the host can additionally enable a password-protected web gallery on picchase.app: only people who have both the game code and the gallery password can open it, the host can turn it off at any time, and it expires with the game’s storage period. Share codes carefully and get consent before photographing people.
How does the shareable web gallery work?
After a game ends, a Premium host can enable a web gallery for it on picchase.app. The app generates a 5-character gallery password, deliberately shorter than the 6-character game code so the two cannot be mixed up. Viewers open picchase.app/gallery and enter both — nothing is ever public, gallery pages are excluded from search engines, repeated wrong guesses are locked out, and photos travel over an encrypted connection. The host can turn the gallery off at any time (re-enabling creates a new password), and it expires automatically with the game’s 14-day storage period or becomes unavailable immediately if the host requests early deletion. Photos can be downloaded individually or all at once as a zip file — the one-click full download exists only in the web gallery; the app saves photos one at a time.
Can I delete a photo during a game?
Yes. A player can delete an individual photo they submitted while the game is active.
Can the host delete a finished game before it expires?
Yes. The host can open a completed game from Recent Games and choose Delete Game at the bottom of its overview. The game immediately becomes unavailable and any web gallery is disabled. Permanent deletion of the game and all its photos for every player cannot be undone. It is usually processed within a few minutes, but can take a few hours.
How long are photos and game data stored?
Cancelled games are deleted automatically after a few hours. By default, finished free games are deleted after 24 hours and finished Premium games after 14 days. The host can request earlier deletion as described above.
Is PicChase suitable for classrooms and youth groups?
It can be used as a host-organized, supervised activity. Teachers should follow school policies and guardian-consent requirements, define boundaries, and prefer prompts that avoid faces and private information. Children should play with suitable adult supervision and guardian consent.
What should players avoid photographing?
Avoid strangers without consent, private property, sensitive documents, screens with personal information, unsafe or prohibited areas, and inappropriate content. Never use the phone while driving.
Where can I get support?
Visit the support page or email [email protected]. Include your platform, app version, approximate time, and game code when relevant, but do not send payment-card details or sensitive photos.
